Drinking and Driving

Understand the blood alcohol laws in Dubai...

Dubai has a zero tolerance policy and a blood alcohol limit of zero.

Anyone involved in an accident or stopped for any driving offence will almost certainly be breathalysed. It is also common for accident witnesses to be breathalysed.

Plain-clothes officers are on the roads at all times, and have the right to stop and check anyone they choose. For those who get caught the penalties are severe, from a hefty fine to a prison sentence and/or confiscation of their driver's licence.

For some, particularly diplomatic staff, it can lead to the loss of their job, loss of their sponsorship and deportation.

The Dubai police department promotes the use of a service called Saferdriver. For a small fee, a chauffeur will drive the car and passengers home.
