English-Language Media in France

Information about the local and international English-language print and broadcast media that is available in France...

There are many options for those seeking English-speaking radio and television channels, as well as print publications, when living in France.

Radio

The main BBC stations and other English-language radio can also be received via many satellite TV installations or over the Internet. Previously broadcast programmes can often be listened to again or downloaded. Voice of America is also available on shortwave, with NewsNow.

Radio on the Internet

Many international radio stations are available streamed live on the Internet.

Television

French channels Canal+ and Arte show some English-language programmes (particularly feature films); however more English-language television is available with satellite TV. My CANAL is the main digital satellite provider in France. It provides some programming in multiple languages (including English), such as feature films, comedy, TV dramas, and documentaries - and offers some English news feeds (from sources such as CNN, BBC World, Sky News and CNBC). Alternatively, it is possible to access UK-based free-to-air (FTA) programming on the same satellite that broadcasts Sky Digital. Please note, however, that there is no legal way to access encrypted programming on that satellite while in France (such as Sky Digital's premium channels accessible only through a Sky subscription package, or those channels that may only be watched in the UK using a satellite receiver with a free-to-view - FTV - card installed).

Print Media

Most major publications are available online as well as in print. For a more portable digital version, apps like the Mail Plus App from the UK's Daily Mail Group allow the latest news to be read on a phone or tablet, often for much less than the cost of a subscription.
  • The Connexion is a monthly newspaper featuring French national news, practical updates and information about life in France. Available from selected newsagents or by subscription
Same-day editions can be found of the Paris-edited International Herald Tribune, The Financial Times (distributed for free in the reception areas of some businesses, especially in Sophia Antipolis and Monaco), The Times/Sunday Times, The Daily Mail/Mail on Sunday and The Daily/Sunday Telegraph, especially in larger towns. Other English-language newspapers are available at some newsstands, usually on the day following publication.
