Weekly Markets

Locally grown fruit and vegetables, fresh fish and fresh quality meat and poultry products, herbs, spices, flowers and plants are on sale at the regular outdoor markets in Hamburg. The area around Hamburg is important for growing fruit and vegetables, so there is usually plenty of fresh seasonal produce available.

Here are some of the biggest weekly food markets in the different neighbourhoods:

  • Hamburg Fish Market: Traditional fish market, also selling fruit, flowers, meat and clothes, and fish snacks. Every Sunday from 05:00-09:30 in summer and 07:00-09:30 in winter. Located on the harbour at Grosse Elbstrasse 9, 22767 Hamburg (Altona).

  • Isemarkt: One of Hamburg's biggest open air markets with fresh regional products - fruit and vegetables, fish and meat. Open every Tuesday and Friday 08:30-14:00. Located between U-Bahn Hoheluftbruecke and Eppendorfer Baum.

  • Wandsbek Quarree: Open air regional market with fresh vegetables, fruit and regional specialities. Open Monday to Saturday 08:00-13:00. Located behind the shopping centre in Wandsbek.

  • Rissen: Open air market for locally grown vegetables and seasonal fruits and specialities. Open Tuesday 07:00-18:00 and Saturday, 07:00-14:00. Located on Wedeler Landstrasse 30.
  • Turmweg: About 70 market stalls with regional food, fruit, vegetables, meat and fish, regional specialties. Open every Thursday 08:30-14:00. Located at Turmweg (Rotherbaum).

Christmas markets

There are many Christmas markets in the city centre and in the surrounding towns. Christmas markets open on the Monday after "Ewigkeitssonntag", the last Sunday before Advent. They usually close on 23 December, although some in the city centre remain open until after Christmas (closed on 24 and 25 December).
