The MVV (Münchner Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund) is the central management organisation for public transport in Munich and its surrounding areas. Some MVV buses, trams, U-Bahn trains, and S-Bahn trains in Munich are equipped to accommodate wheelchairs and people with limited mobility. Most stations and tram stops have moving sidewalks, lifts or ramps. Almost all buses and trams are low-floor or have ramps for easier boarding.

  • Bavarian Red Cross Ride Service (Deutsches Rotes Kreuz Bayern Fahrdienstleitung): The Bavarian Red Cross provides door-to-door transportation by reservation (minimum one day in advance) within Munich and the Munich area.
  • Mini Bus Team: The Mini Bus Team is a privately-owned shuttle and charter service that can accommodate wheelchair users and their companions.

Public Toilets for People with Disablities

Special disabled-friendly public toilets are available at locations throughout Munich; a key is required to access them. The key is available for rent at the City Information Centre on Marienplatz (identification confirming disability and a deposit is required)

  • Bavarian Blind and Visually Impaired Association (Bayerischer Blinden- und Sehbehindertenbund e.V. - BBSB): A self-help association for people with visual impairments that aims to help its members lead an independent life.

  • National Association of Lifelong Help for People with Mental Disabilities (Bundesvereinigung Lebenshilfe für Menschen mit geistiger Behinderung): A self-help association that helps people with mental disabilities to participate in society and promotes accessibility. The association provides advice, support and equipment.
  • Association of Self-help for the Physically Disabled (Bundesverband Selbsthilfe Körperbehinderter - BSK): This national association with regional branches and contact points represents the interests of people with physical disabilities. Members can obtain advice, vehicle breakdown assistance and group insurance. The association runs workshops and operates residential facilities.
  • Bavarian Association for Mentally and Physically Handicapped People (Landesverband Bayern für körper- und mehrfachbehinderte Menschen e.V. - BVKM): An association that promotes equality for people living with disabilities through education and helps people obtain appropriate care.
  • The Deaf Association of Munich (Gehörlosenverband München und Umland e.V. - GMU): This association promotes the deaf culture and integration of deaf people into society. Under the auspices of the GMU are various clubs including mountaineering, diving, bowling and automobile clubs as well as a senior citizens club and a theatre group which performs plays.
