Information about the work opportunities and regulations for teenagers in Gibraltar…
Gibraltar has a very similar employment system to the United Kingdom, based on English legislation so employment contracts are close to what one would expect to find in the UK. Employment relationships are regulated by an employment contract, there are however some specific regulations that apply to employees aged between 15 and 18.
- An employee aged between 15 and 18 who works more than four hours daily is entitled to an uninterrupted rest period of 30 minutes
- Night shifts cannot exceed eight hours and must be followed by 12 consecutive hours of rest; there must be two days of uninterrupted rest per week
The minimum wage in Gibraltar applies to all employees aged 15 and over.
There are no universities or further education institutions in Gibraltar. Further education diplomas and degrees are followed at universities in the United Kingdom. Scholarships may be available to eligible students.
