Information about the legal requirements for the correct licensing of your vehicle in Hong Kong...
The Transport Department of Hong Kong charges an annual or four-monthly vehicle licence fee calculated by engine size. Applicants for a vehicle licence will need to provide proof of identity (photocopy or original), proof of address (utility bill or bank correspondence), proof of third party insurance, the original registration document, a roadworthiness certificate (if the car is over six years old) and the appropriate fee. Typically, car dealerships in Hong Kong initiate the licensing process for their customers.
Those able to renew their licence online are encouraged to do so. Applicants who wish to renew their licence in person are advised to make an appointment with the Licensing Office.
