Debit and Credit Cards

Information about using credit and debit cards and what to do if the card is lost or stolen...

Credit and debit cards can be used as payment almost everywhere in the country. Most hotels, restaurants, supermarkets and petrol stations and also smaller shops in the capital accept this type of payment. However, in some shops in smaller towns, it may only be possible to pay in cash.

There are some credit cards where banks offer insurance as an additional service, for example, travel insurance when making purchases with the card.

Lost or Stolen Cards

If a credit or debit card is lost or stolen, the card should be cancelled as soon as possible. Card closure lines below for some of the banks operating in Hungary are open 24 hours a day, unless stated otherwise.
