English-language Cinema in Mumbai

There are a large number of cinemas in Mumbai, ranging from single hall movie theatres to multiplex cinema chains. In general, movies are released on Fridays.

The cinemas screen Hindi, English and Indian regional language movies. Movie schedules can be found in daily newspapers and on the cinema websites.

Films are generally shown in their original language, although some foreign-language films may be dubbed into Hindi. This is clearly shown in the film schedule and most multiplex cinema chains have a few films showing at all times in English. Movie details, schedules and online booking options are available from each cinema's website. Some cinemas also have a telephone booking option with home delivery of tickets. Cinemas accept most kinds of debit and credit cards and there  may be discounts linked to certain debit cards when booking tickets.

Film Classification

All films are certified before their release and the film classification is shown in cinema listings as follows:

  • U - Universal, suitable for all ages
  • UA - parental guidance, for those aged under 12
  • A - Adults only above the age of 18
  • S - Restricted to a specific audience or profession
