Golf is becoming increasingly popular in Indonesia with a number of golf courses throughout the islands, especially in Java, Bali and Surabaya. Golf is played throughout the year with the exception of Nyepi Day in Bali.
The governing body for golf in Indonesia is the Persatuan Golf Indonesia - PGI (Indonesia Golf Association), with the aim of developing amateur golf in the country.

Playing Golf in Indonesia
Golf rules in Indonesia are the standard R&A rules although check with the individual clubs for local rules depending on course conditions.
Indonesia follows the United States Golf Association (USGA) handicap system. A handicap is required in order to play. In order to transfer or obtain a handicap in Indonesia, players need to present their most recent score card.
Joining a golf club
Players can choose to pay annual membership fees or pay golf course fees each time they play. The green fees vary from course to course and prices may increase at the weekend. Life membership can also be bought at some exclusive golf courses with annual or monthly fees.
Insurance is generally included in the green fees. Some golf courses may require a medical certificate in order to play.
Golf Club Services
Most clubs have qualified instructors who can provide golf lessons and golf carts are available for hire. There are many caddies providing good services; in general they are women.
