There are two major airports in Tokyo. These are Tokyo Narita International Airport and Tokyo Haneda International Airport

There are several ways to transfer between Narita and Haneda airports. There are taxi services and connecting trains available, as well as the following non-stop, direct bus and train services:

Narita International Airport (NRT)

This is the major international airport for the Tokyo area. It is located approximately 60 Km northeast from the city centre of Tokyo. More than 55 airlines serving 140 destinations in over 90 countries fly in and out of Narita Airport. There are two terminal buildings - Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. The airport is currently expanding its flights to other domestic Japanese airports.

  • Terminal 1: All Nippon Airways, Delta Airlines, United Airlines and its partner airlines (Star Airlines and Sky Team)
  • Terminal 2: Japan Airlines and its One World Alliance partner airlines. Skymark Airlines, Air Asia and Jetstar also use this terminal

Tokyo Haneda International Airport

This is the major domestic Japanese airport for the Tokyo area (although it also operates international flights) and is one of the busiest airports in the world. It is located 15 Km south of the city centre of Tokyo. Haneda Airport is home to more than 20 airlines serving 14 destinations in nine countries, as well as over 60 destinations within Japan. It has three terminal buildings - Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and the International Terminal.

  • Terminal 1 - Japan Airlines, Skymark Airlines and Star Flyer
  • Terminal 2 - All Nippon Airways, Air Do, Solaseed Air and Star Flyer (Kansai flights only)
  • International Terminal - All international flights from all airlines depart and arrive from this terminal

It should be noted that most international flight arrivals and departures at Haneda Airport are late at night or early in the morning. Transport to and from the airport is limited during these hours. Bus services that operate late at night and early in the morning charge extra for their services.
