There is a wide variety of accommodation available to visitors to Mexico City. Luxury, boutique, or budget hotels are found throughout the city, as are bed and breakfasts and hostels. Self-catering holiday apartments are also available for rent by the week or month.

Types of Holiday Accommodation in Mexico City

Luxury hotels are generally concentrated around the main tourist and business areas, close to shopping and cultural attractions, for example in Reforma and near Chapultepec Park and Polanco. Luxury hotels in Mexico City often have special weekend rates.

Mid-range hotels are commonly found in the Centro Histórico, while boutique hotels are often located in the trendy Condesa or Zona Rosa neighborhoods.

Hostels and budget hotels can be found throughout the city, and usually offer a choice of private or dormitory style rooms. Some of these cater to the youth market, and provide very basic accommodation with very few amenities.

Bed and breakfast-style accommodation and guesthouses are readily available in Mexico City; the amenities offered in these can vary significantly. In some cases, the accommodation may resemble a hostel, while others offer a high degree of comfort and service.

Vacation apartments tend to be located in areas of interest to tourists, and may range from basic to luxury. Vacation apartments may be in condo buildings, private homes, or apartments.

The Hotel Rating System

There is no national hotel rating system in Mexico. Travel websites often rate accommodation using a star system; however, standards may vary across websites, and visitors may have different expectations of a type of accommodation based on standards in their own countries. Ratings based on guest reviews may be more credible than those assigned by travel websites.
