Mexico is a predominantly Roman Catholic country of approximately 115 million people. The main language is Spanish, and there are also a number of indigenous dialects.

There are about one million foreigners living in Mexico. Some are retirees who make the most of the warm climate and lower cost of living, while many are foreign professionals working for one of the many international companies with manufacturing facilities or offices in the country. The majority of foreign migrants come from the United States; many also come from the Russian Federation, Germany, India, France and Canada.

Most foreigners live in states close to the border with the United States. Baja has the highest number of foreign residents, while Jalisco, Mexico City and Chihuahua are also popular locations with foreigners.
