How to bring your pet safely and comfortably into Mexico...
Many of the major airlines serving Mexico cater for cats and dogs. Each has its own restrictions and requirements. It should be remembered that long-haul flights can be extremely traumatic for animals.
Depending on the type and size of animal and the airline used, the pet may be able to travel in the cabin or in the hold. The animal must travel in an approved container, which must be big enough for the animal to stand, sit and turn during the journey. The container must allow adequate ventilation. If the journey is longer than a few hours, food and drink may need to be supplied. Consult the appropriate airline or carrier for details.
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) provides guidelines on how to transport an animal by air.
Traveling with Guide Dogs
A guide dog (perro guÃa) is allowed to travel in the cabin, providing all the relevant health and vaccination certificates have been provided. It is best to contact the airline to find out about any specific restrictions and requirements.
Traveling with Pets on Coaches within Mexico
Bus companies often require the animal to travel sedated in the hold luggage area. Individual companies provide information on their policies towards traveling with animals.
