Australian Citizens

Australian citizens in Mexico can get access to consular services at their Embassy in Mexico City.

Services offered by the Embassy for Australians include:

  • Online passport applications (and contact details if an Australian passport is lost or stolen)
  • Travel information
  • Information on tax issues
  • Information on applying for birth, marriage or death certificates
  • A guide to moving back to Australia

Canadian Citizens

Canadian citizens have access to consular services in Mexico at their country’s Embassy in Mexico City.

Services provided by the Embassy for Canadian citizens include:

  • Visa and passport services (also lost/stolen passports)
  • Advice and help in an emergency, for example in the case of ill health, a missing person or a natural disaster
  • A list of doctors and hospitals in the country
  • Advice on voting while living abroad
  • Advice on doing business with Mexico
  • Legal and notarial services
  • Tax information
  • Information on marriage and divorce in the country
  • A list of translators

Canada also makes consular services available to its citizens at a number of locations around Mexico: Monterrey, Guadalajara, Acapulco, Cabo San Lucas, Cancún, Mazatlán, Oaxaca, Playa del Carmen, Puerto Vallarta and Tijuana.

Irish Citizens

The Irish Embassy in Mexico is located in Mexico City. Its consular service section provides assistance and support to Irish nationals living in Mexico.

UK Citizens

The British Embassy in Mexico is located in Mexico City. Its consular service section provides assistance and support to British nationals living in Mexico.

The following services are provided by the Embassy in Mexico City:

  • Advice and assistance for people in difficulty, whether it is a lost passport, money problems or for those who are victims of a crime
  • Travel advice for the country, including information on natural disasters, staying healthy, local laws and general safety
  • A list of English-speaking lawyers and translators
  • Advice on daily life in Mexico
  • Notarial services and legalizing documents

British passports are not issued by the British Embassy in Mexico. All applications must be sent to HM Passport Office in the UK.

US Citizens

The United States maintains an Embassy in Mexico City.

The Embassy provides the following services for US citizens in Mexico:

The Federal Benefits Unit at the Embassy provides assistance to individuals who receive benefits from the United States Social Security Administration, the Civil Service or the Department of Veterans Affairs.

The Embassy provides detailed information about how to register a birth while in Mexico and what to do in the event of the death of a US citizen.

In addition to the Consulate in Mexico City, consular services are also provided to US citizens at Consulate Generals in Tijuana, Nogales, Hermosillo, Ciudad Juárez, Guadalajara, Matamoros, Mérida, Monterrey and Nuevo Laredo.

New Zealand Citizens

New Zealand has an Embassy in Mexico City.

The Embassy offers New Zealand citizens help in emergency and legal and notarial services, as well as providing emergency travel documents.
