English Language Cinema in Amsterdam

Information on where and how to find full listings of what's on at the movies in and around Amsterdam and how to book your seat at the cinema...

The main cinema chains in the Netherlands include Pathé and Utopolis. They operate principally in large multi-screen premises and allow online reservations via their websites. Although the websites are mostly in Dutch the basic listing and timing information is easy to follow.

Pathé sells a Pathé Unlimited Card (PUC), which gives unlimited entrance to any of its cinemas in Holland for a set fee per month.

As many Dutch speak excellent English, it is common for cinemas around the country to show films in the original language with Dutch subtitles. Alternatively, if the film is in Dutch there will often be English subtitles.

With the exception of films for children, cinemas in and around Amsterdam generally show films in the original language version (OV) with Dutch subtitles (Nederlands ondertiteld). Films dubbed into Dutch are marked in the schedule as NV (Nederlands gesproken).

Film schedules change on Thursday and listings are published on Thursdays for the following week. All cinemas have free film agenda programme lists. Daily newspapers also give details of cinema listings.
