The first Monday of each month at midday the emergency sirens are tested. There is no cause for alarm. In the event of a real emergency, go inside and tune the television or radio to a local station for further information.
Medical emergencies and doctors
Most general practitioners' surgeries are open Monday to Friday 08:00-17:00. Evening, weekend and public holiday calls made to SMASH (Mobile Doctors Service The Hague) are redirected to the local on-call doctor for The Hague, Rijswijk, Voorburg, Wassenaar, Leidschendam and Voorschoten:

The Dutch Coastguard has a number of operational tasks, some of which are carried out on their behalf by the Dutch Navy. The main operational centre at Den Helder is manned 24 hours a day and functions as a central reporting, information and co-ordination centre.

Specialist clinics at the Bronovo Hospital in The Hague are open Tuesday evenings from 18:00-21:00 hours. Patients should first make an appointment by contacting the clinic. Clinics open are: surgery, dental surgery, orthopaedics, pulmonology, neurology, gynaecology and midwifery, and the blood testing laboratory, which is open 07:30-20:30 for appointments.
