Panama is a great place for those who love the outdoors and, with 2,857 Km of coastline, sailing, fishing, scuba-diving and watersports are very popular pastimes. Bocas del Toro, the Isla Grande near Portobelo, and the San Blás Islands (off the northeast coast) are particularly popular with diving and snorkeling enthusiasts.

Panama is home to many rare bird species and is considered one of the best bird watching spots in the world. Much of Panama is under a protection order although eco-tours to the National Parks and areas such as the Chiriqui Highlands and the Volcan Baru are a good way to enjoy the country’s varied natural landscapes and to learn about the conservation work that is being done.

Sport is an important part of the cultural and social life in Panama. Whether you like to play or observe sports, and whatever your tastes, you will have the opportunity to watch or take part in a wide range of sporting activities.
