The Republic of Panama or República de Panamá is a country in Central America. The estimated population in May 2010 was just over 3.4 million, with 900,000 in the capital, Panama City.

The culture, customs, and language of Panama are predominantly Caribbean Spanish and the country has a very diverse population of mainly Amerindian descent.

The majority of Panamanians are Christian and, after centuries of Spanish colonial influence, most are Roman Catholics.

The country is divided into nine provinces and several Indian comarcas or comarca indígena.
