People with disabilities are protected by law against discrimination in employment, education, access to health care, or the provision of other state services, and the government effectively enforces the law. The law also mandates access to public buildings and ensures that the laws are adhered to. No legislation covers private businesses or other facilities.

  • The Ministry of Labour and Social Security (MinistĂ©rio do Trabalho, Solidariedade e Segurança Social) is responsible for ensuring equality for the disabled in access to work and other state services  
  • The Portuguese National Institute for Rehabilitation (Instituto Nacional para a Reabilitação, I.P, INR, I.P) gives personal support and advice on technical matters to people with disabilities and their families
