Bringing Up Toddlers in Qatar

The resources and support available for parents with young children in Qatar, including health facilities, nursery schools, and activities and groups...

Children and family are an important part of Arabic culture, and parents with babies and toddlers are made welcome in most social situations. Health facilities and childcare provisions are generally of a high standard, and there is an active expatriate mothers' community that provides support.

Child Benefits

There is no statutory child benefit or government allowance for expatriates in Qatar. However, the Labour Law contains provisions for working mothers, including entitlement to 50 days' paid maternity leave, and also the right to one hour's nursing time per working day to allow for feeding a baby for the first year of its life.

Expatriate employees may also have a family allowance to cover childcare and school fees built into their contracts, although this varies from company to company.
