Information about the work opportunities and regulations for teenagers and students in Qatar...

It is not very common in Qatar for teenagers and students to have jobs, although technically children can work from the age of 16 with parental permission, subject to various restrictions on hours and medical fitness; see Labour Law Part Eight.

This trend is attributed to a number of reasons, including cheap labour occupying many low-level service jobs that younger people typically take up in some western countries. Work visa limitations also play a part, as does the fact that many western expatriate families are on a good salary so that their children do not need to earn extra money. It may be possible to arrange work placements or summer internships with private companies. This is most commonly done with the help of schools or friends and associates of the parents.

Children with parents living in Qatar are permitted to stay on a Family Residence Visa well beyond student age (sons up to the age of 25, daughters up until the time they marry).
