Opening an Account in Qatar

Understand what is required to open a bank account in Qatar...

Most banks in Qatar require the following documentation to open an account:

  • A copy of the prospective account holder’s residence permit
  • A passport copy
  • A letter from the sponsor or employer confirming the prospective account holder’s status and salary
  • At least two passport photographs
  • Proof of address, such as a letter or utility bill

All of this documentation needs to be taken to the branch, where application forms must be filled out in order for the account to be processed. Cards and cheque books are normally available for collection or posting a few working days later.

Non-residents are not able to open accounts in Qatar.
