Drinking and Driving

Understand the blood alcohol laws in Qatar...

There is a zero-tolerance policy on drink driving in Qatar, which means that the legal limit is 0.0 mg. Drivers who are found to have any alcohol in their system when breathalysed are heavily fined (between QR 10,000 and QR 50,000), and there is a high chance of a jail sentence (minimum one month, maximum three years) followed by deportation.

Drivers are penalised for having alcohol in their system even if the driver of the other vehicle was at fault in a collision. Alcohol consumed the night before may still be present in the bloodstream on the following day, and drivers who fall into this category are not exempt from punishment.
