Domestic Electricity in Russia

Information on Russian domestic electricity, plug sockets and voltage requirements for home appliances...

Standard Electricity Supply and Compatibility

The electricity supply in Russia is 220 and 240 volts AC with a frequency of 50 hertz.

Appliances from the US and Canada will need voltage converters and adaptors for the different sockets, while those from other countries such as the UK, Australia and New Zealand will need only the adaptors.

Both adaptors and converters are not easy to find in stores in Russia, so it is recommended to buy them before travelling. If required, it is also advisable to bring voltage regulators or stabilisers from outside the country.

Most sockets take double round-pin plugs, European size, known as a Type C plug or the Europlug.
