Internet in Russia

Find about the Internet options available and getting online in Russia…

Russia’s largest cities such as Moscow and St Petersburg have advanced and high-speed Internet networks and access is available via broadband, cable, dial-up, mobile internet access and LAN. Outside the major urban areas, the lack of competition between providers in rural areas means higher prices and lower speeds.

Many apartments will already have an broadband connection, or similar, set up. If there is no connection to a residence, the landlord will have to apply to be connected. All Internet providers offer online applications and the process takes approximately two weeks for a connection to be set up.

It is possible to have Internet by one company and telephone services by another, but for companies providing Internet services in addition to telephone and also TV services, it is sometimes possible to get a deal on a package. However, this depends on which services the provider offers in a specific area. There are no long-term contracts; in most cases the subscription can be cancelled with one month’s notice.
