Below is information on the various support organisations and helplines in Barcelona. While some may have English-speaking staff and volunteers, there is no guarantee that English will be spoken.
Spanish Red Cross (Cruz Roja)
The Spanish Red Cross provides help for drug addicts and their families, people affected by HIV, immigrants and the elderly. It runs assistance centres for drug addicts and their families. The centres offer emergency and psychological help, a meeting place and a shelter. Further services include social integration classes and first aid courses, assistance in finding accommodation, treatment for drug addiction and mobile methadone units. Helping minors is a special priority.

Alcoholics Anonymous
There are a number of meetings, in English, held by Alcoholics Anonymous and Al-Anon.
HIV/AIDS
gTt - HIV Treatment Group (Grupo de Trabajo sobre Tratamientos del VIH): The association offers HIV treatment advice. This no-profit organisation can also offer help and advice on social, political, economic and cultural issues to those with HIV/AIDS.

Stop SIDA: Non-for-profit organisation dedicated to the fight against AIDS. The aim of the organisation is to encourage prevention but also provides support, information and resources to infected people, their family and friends. There is an information and counselling service available by appointment only.

Cancer Support
Grup Agata - Catalan Breast Cancer Association (Asociación Catalana de Mujeres Afectadas de Cáncer de Mama):
Association for those affected by breast cancer. There are a number of support groups and help is available from physiotherapists and psychologists.

Narcotics Anonymous
Narcotics Anonymous (NA) is a non-profit fellowship of men and women for whom drugs had become a major problem. Narcotics Anonymous meetings are held in English in the Barcelona area and recovering addicts meet regularly to help each other stay clean.

La Lliga de la Llet: Catalan branch of La Leche League, organisation offering breastfeeding information and support. The meetings are held in Spanish or Catalan, however, the group in Horta has an English-speaking monitor.
