The town of Benalmádena, along with Arroyo de la Miel, Benalmadena Costa and Benalmadena Pueblo, make up the Municipality of Benalmádena. The town of Benalmádena is situated 20 Km Southwest of Malaga. It is part of the autonomous community (comunidad autónoma) of Andalucía (Spain is comprised of 17 autonomous communities). The city is approximately 26.6 Km² in size and has a summer population of more than 100,000. The city is very popular with British tourists.
Local Life
Nearby Benalmadena Costa is considered the urban centre of the Municipality of Benalmádena, with quite a few restaurants and pubs, many of them English, Irish and Scottish. Along the busy beachfront, numerous restaurants serve regional dishes and fresh fish. In Sol y Mar square, also known as the "24-hour Square", there is an active nightlife, with many clubs offering salsa dancing, DJs and live music into the early hours.
Tourism
The House of Artisans (Casa del Artesano) is a refurbished historical building where craftspeople demonstrate how artisans have been making the local crafts for many centuries. The Selwo Marina is an aquarium with myriad sea animals, ice sculptures, exotic birds, snakes, a 3-D cinema and touch pools. Bil Bil Castle (Castillo Bil-Bil), a Moorish-style residence built in the 1930s, has an exhibition room with a large number of mosaics, textures and paintings. The town often hosts event here.
