Starting a Business in Switzerland

Find out about the various business structures available in Switzerland and how to get a venture started...

In principle, anyone may start a business in Switzerland. There are no nationality-based restrictions with regard to being an owner, a member of the management or the board of directors of a Swiss enterprise. However, foreign citizens wanting to take a job or start a business on a self-employment basis should be aware that a work/residence permit is required.

Again, as a general rule, a person starting a business is not required to obtain a licence or permission for that business, except in certain cases, for example insurance and financial advisory companies, hospitals and medical services providers, airlines, banks and other businesses that are regulated and require an official licence.
