English-language Cinema in Taipei

Going to the cinema is a popular leisure activity in Taiwan, and there are many movie theatres in Taipei showing recent, international movies. Most films are shown in their original language with Chinese subtitles, and in some cases with English subtitles as well. Children's films, however, are generally dubbed into Chinese.

Film Ratings

Films in Taiwan are classified as follows:

  • G - General audience, suitable for all ages
  • P - Protection; some material is unsuitable for children. Children must be aged six and over to see these movies, and those aged 6 to 11 must be accompanied by an adult
  • PG - Parental Guidance; some material is unsuitable for children. Children must be aged 12 or more
  • R - Restricted, for adults aged 18 and over only

Cinema Schedules

Cinema programmes generally change on Fridays. Schedules in English can be found in print copies of the local English-language newspapers The China Post and the Taipei Times. Websites of each cinema also have up-to-date schedules for screenings of the latest movies.
