Cycling and Mountain Biking

Find out about the opportunities available to cycling and mountain biking enthusiasts in Taiwan...

The Taiwanese government has done much to promote cycling in the country. There are now many thousands of miles of cycle paths all around the island. These include the Taipei Basin cycle route, which connects Bitan to the town of Tamsu. There are also numerous cycling clubs around the country and regular races for competitive cyclists.

Away from the cities much of Taiwan can be explored by bike. The east coast, which has many quiet, traffic-free roads, makes a good long-distance cycling route.

The Taiwan Cyclist Federation is the sport’s governing body. It organises races and training events.

Much of Taiwan is perfect for mountain biking. There are mountain biking trails close to Taipei, including Beitou Hills and the Ski Lift area in Neihu District, the best downhill riding in the city. The riding is on technical single-track trails more suited to experienced riders.
