Opening a Bank Account in Taiwan

Find out how to go about opening a Taiwan bank account: the documents needed and the process involved...

Each bank has its own application process and various documents are required when opening an account. While all banks require that an applicant has the following documents, some may also require additional documents:

  • Passport with a valid entry visa
  • Alien Resident Card (ARC)

An applicant who wishes to open an account but has not yet received their ARC should first go to a local service centre of the National Immigration Agency to apply for a “Record of ID Number in the ROC”.

In Taiwan, standard personal accounts are called "Demand Deposit" accounts.

When opening an account, applicants can apply for a bank card as well as arrange fund transfers. Account holders are given a bank book in which transactions are recorded.
