Health Insurance in Thailand

How to make sure that you have appropriate health insurance in Thailand...

Whether through an employer or by purchasing a private health insurance plan, there are several insurance options for health insurance in Thailand. Non-Thai nationals are not covered in the government insurance system, but there are many international health insurance providers that operate within Thailand. Most employers, international or local, also offer a health insurance option as part of their benefits packages for their employees.

Billing and Payments

Payment for healthcare services is generally expected right away, as opposed to the “pay later” options that may be available in some parts of the world. If you have insurance, the hospital will give you the appropriate forms to fill out and contact your insurance provider to arrange the payment.

If not, the hospital or clinic will expect you to pay for your services in full before leaving the premises. For payment options and requirements, it’s best to check with your own coverage provider or the hospital directly before going for a treatment so you know what you’re expected to pay.
