School Holiday Programmes

Find out about options for keeping your teens occupied during the school holidays...

The Turkish academic year (schools and universities) has two main holidays: a two-week mid-term break starting in mid-February, and the summer holiday which starts late in June and ends in mid-September. Many universities reopen mid-October.

Most schools (state and private) have many social activities for their students either free or for a small fee. They also provide summer school with courses usually including languages, swimming, basketball and music.

University and vocational school students - if it's required by the programme - spend summer holidays with a company on an internship.

Work and travel

Some organisations arrange work, travel and internship opportunities for teenagers who might have three or four months off during the summer holidays, giving them the chance to work abroad.

The Work And Travel Turkey programme places participating students to work in hotels and restaurants, amusement parks, department stores, campsites and resorts.

AIESEC - International Internship Exchange Program - places working students in internship positions in participating companies and countries.

IAESTE (in Turkish) is a technical and cultural exchange programme managed by Istanbul University.
