Turkey is very open to business investment and anyone, irrespective of nationality or place of residence, can set up a business in the country. A new company can be established quickly by applying with the necessary documents to the relevant trade registry office. It is registration with the trade registry which gives a company legal status.

In some sectors, prior permission to establish a business must be gained from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. This applies in the following areas: banks and private finance institutions, insurance, factoring, holdings, foreign currency exchange offices, public warehousing, founders and operators of free trade zones, and any company subject to the Capital Markets Law.
