There is a wide range of activities in the UK for school-going teens during the vacation breaks...<br class="spacer_" />
The longest holiday in the UK school calendar is in the summer, when schools are closed for around six weeks.
Holiday Camps
There are a number of companies that offer a large range of activity holidays and or/training courses for youngsters, such as:
In addition to these specially designed holiday camps, Girlguiding UK and Scout associations also run their own residential courses.
Work Experience
It is also very common in the UK for teenagers to take part in work experience during their holidays, to gain experience in a job that they might be interested in pursuing after school. To carry out work experience, it is generally up to the youngster and their family to contact employers directly, and ask if a period of un-paid work experience would be possible.
Volunteering
There are many volunteering projects across the UK that count on young volunteers to help them out. They include:
- Play schemes at a local leisure or sports centre
- Conservation projects at a local park or National Trust site
- Mentoring projects for young people
- Local festivals, sporting events or exhibitions looking for help with tickets
