A variety of Internet services are available (depending on the provider) including dial-up, ADSL broadband connection, FTTH (Fibre To The Home) optical cable and USB 3G.
Service providers don't have access to all areas. Firstly, a check must be made to see if connection is possible.
To establish an account the following documents are required:
- Valid visa
- Proof of employment
- Proof of residential address
Some companies may also require a Vietnamese national to act as a guarantor. FPT does not require guarantor although the user has pay a deposit and the contract has to be longer than one year.
In July 2013 the Vietnamese government passed a law restricting the sharing of news stories online. The Vietnam Internet Management Decree (Decree 72/2013-ND-CP) specifies that only personal information may be exchanged on blogs and social networking sites and prohibits the sharing of information from news sources.
