After all these years in France, I didn't know that there was a dog licence, tax on keeping a dog, over here too? Some one mentioned it to me, but I cannot seem to find it on teh internet? What is it called here? I've searched on; tax de chien, licence de chien, etc, nothing. Thanks in advance for your reply, Ronan
We're planning to be away for a few days in October and need to find kennels for our two dogs one of whom is a recent rescue of very nervous disposition. Does anyone have experience of kennels in the Pezenas or wider area that will be sympathetic to this? Sorry if I'm repeating what's already been asked but I've had a look through previous posts but can't find anything fairly recent.
Hi Can anyone recommend a pet behaviourist? I have two standard poodles which have recently started fighting, the older dog has always been top dog but now the younger one is challenging him. This mornings fight started when the older dog was getting off the settee and the younger one was walking pass him, the older one always grumbles at him but this morning the younger one took exception to this and set upon him. These incidents are not only damaging to the dogs but very upsetting for us to witness. This morning we managed to separate them by throwing a large bottle of water over them which of course isn't ideal in the living room!I live about 35 minutes from Carcassonne.thanks for reading this.
We just bought a house in the Aude-area,mnear Lagrasse. Due to family matters, we have to leave for 2 weeks tomorrow. We're urgently looking for someone who'd be so kind to mind our lovely Labrador for us. He's got all vaccinations, micro chipped and passport. He's a truly easy going gent, castrated, 9 years old, very sociable, no probs with kids, other dogs, cats, etc. It's urgent, as we need to leave tomorrow. Maybe you have a place for him, or know of someone who might? Narbonne/Lezignan/Lagrasse/Carcasonne, etc Thanks in advance for your consideration and your replies, Frances
HI there, I have a lovely - although big - dog who is intelligent with a great and gentle personality. I would love to find a couple who would love to look after my dog in their home - maybe we could consider a reciprocal arrangement (between dogs) and someone would be happy to house-sit my dog and cat ?? As he is big and 'special' (to me obviously), he requires a far size garden to run around him and a reasonably strong person to be able to manage his lead. I have given up on the idea of Kennels (I just cant put him there anymore even though I think I found one of the best kennels 11/2 hours from me!) because I just dont think he can has the temperament to be there. He is loving, needs to be with people and operate freely (due to his size) but he is also a little spoilt! I am happy to pay a good rate for the right people - if I am lucky enough to find them. I travel quite abit - some it could be for periods of afew days or afew weeks. I would love to find someone who could develop a good relationship with my dog in that he had a regular person to be with. I have been lucky enough to find this type of relationship with another couple at the moment but they are not likely to fulfil all my requirements due to their own commitments with dogs ........ so I am looking for a back-up situation. I know its better for my dog to only have one option but needs must and if both options are good, then I dont think its a problem Is there an 'angel' out there able to help ??? Alaska

Hi We are moving to France mid October and bringing our two cats with us. I was wondering what the best insurance was in France. We currently have a policy with our vets for their check- ups and also one for cover towards operations etc. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Jane ...
Hi there, We will be flying into Toulouse from Cape Town at the beginning of May with our 3 doggies to settle in the Pezenas area. Whilst we are using an animal travel agency on the Cape Town side, once the dogs arrive in Toulouse we will be on our own with them. We asked for a quote to clear them through Toulouse Customs from a French animal travel agency and were quoted E500 - too rich for us! All the travel documentation will be in order and we speak passable French. Can we do it ourselves? Any advice would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks
Hi, we are holidaying in Bize Minervois in August with our 2 dogs, we normally go to a vet in St Omer, but with the changes, we are able to go to a vet near Bize Minervois. Does anyone know of a vet, who is able to stamp dog passports and also speaks English. An email address or website would be great. Also any good dog walks in the area, one of the dogs loves swimming, the other one likes to paddle. Thanks
Hello, has anyone been through the process of getting legal ownership of their rescue dog please? And would they be willing to tell me what it entailed please? Without this we are unable to legally cross the border into Spain which we enjoy doing. Also has anyone got details of vaccinations that are required for Spain, I am told we need an extra one for travel there. Thanks
We are going to the Uk for 10 days in February and are looking for somebody to look after our miniature schnauzer in their own home. He is 13 years old, very quiet, used to cats, rabbits and children. I don't want to leave him at boarding kennels. I think he deserves his little comforts in his old age. Please contact me if you know of anybody or are willing to take him in for 10 days.
A law has just been passed in Belgium to control the stray cat population by obligatory sterilisation of all cats, starting with those being adopted being sterilised before they go to new owners (from now) then being applied to all cats that are sold or given away by individuals and breeders from sept 2014. Finally all stray cats in communes will be identified and sterilised (trap, neuter, release) A public petition has been started to get the same law passed for France. With our massive amounts of stray cats and cats and kittens killed everyday because they are unwanted I think this is something that we should support. You can sign the petition here http://www.petitionpublique.fr/?pi=P2012N29902 make sure, when you have signed that you click on the link in the email that you are sent to confirm your signature, this is to stop people just signing people up without their consent! More info on the new belgian law here http://wamiz.com/chats/actu/les-chats-domestiques-belges-bientot-tous-sterilises-2440.html (with a great illustration of how 2 cats can become over 20,000 in 4 years)
