Making tile grout white again

The tile grout in my kitchen and bathrooms are all very dark in some places. What can I do to make them clean looking again?

Have you tried a bleach water solution in a spray bottle. Create a solution 3:1 water and bleach, use an old toothbrush if needed. Let the solution stay on the tiles for 10 minutes.

Oxygenated water - hydrogen peroxide. Saturate the area to be whitened and let sit for at least 10 minutes, wipe and rinse.

Tippex or white out if you are American.

Won't white out wash away? I'd heard that you can get bleach pens, but seems like a lot of work for a large area.

Can't you get some grouting and just go over it again. I am sure there is a product especially for this.

The grouting is in acceptable condition except for being dark. We would have to chip out the old grout because laying new on top would make the grout higher than the tile.

  • 1/2 cup of baking soda
  • 1/3 cup of ammonia
  • 1/4 cup of white vinegar
  • 7 cups of water
This has worked well for us although obtaining baking soda in Lisbon was no easy task when we first arrived.
