Dr Julie Askew
Doctorate level (PhD) and native English speaking Counsellor & Psychotherapist with over 20 years experience, I work with individuals, couples and families on a wide variety of problems.
Entering into therapy is one of the most effective ways of allowing you the chance to free yourself from thoughts and feelings that no longer work for you in your world today. At times we can all feel challenged or stuck, overwhelmed by life stresses or yearning for better relationships with the people we care about. It is natural to desire happiness and contentment, but finding that balance is not always easy and sometimes we need a little extra help to get there.
Counselling helps us to face the challenges in our lives by recognizing and changing ineffective, repetitive and destructive patterns of thought, communication and behaviour. Over 20 years of solid training and experience enable me to help you resolve both inner personal conflicts and stress, as well as relational problems. I will work with you in a supportive and confidential setting to relieve your symptoms of distress as you gain insight into yourself, focus on your strengths and goals, and develop the skills to find solutions to your current problems. Together we will help you to bring about a sense of healing and regained control.
My training and experience includes two years of training in Couples Therapy and Sexual Issues at the Maudsley Hospital in London, England; a Master’s Degree in Psychotherapy; a PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy; I am a former Counsellor attached to a GP surgery in the NHS in England; a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in New York, USA; and a tenured professor responsible for the training and clinical supervision of Master’s level therapists at a university in New York.
I can help clients with a wide variety of issues, including Relationship Issues, Family Conflict, Anxiety & panic disorders (such as OCD, panic attacks, phobias), Parenting problems, Self-esteem issues, Bereavement, Anger management, Depression, Sexual issues, Divorce, and Body Image. I also provide a LGBTQ safe space.
