Dr. Willems takes what is called an integrative approach to the work she does with clients, including a combination of psychodynamic therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). With psychodynamic therapy, Dr. Willems explores the way in which clients relate to their colleagues, friends and family. With CBT Dr. Willems helps people adjust their behavior and the ways they think about their experiences in order to ultimately improve the way they feel. With EMDR Dr. Willems helps clients reprocess difficult or traumatic memories with the goal of decreasing the negative effects on their lives today. Adapted from apa.org/helpcenter

Academic Assessments/Testing:

Dr. Willems offers psychological assessments in both English and Spanish. A psychological assessment is used to evaluate thinking, learning and behavior. The assessment may include interviews, observation, testing and consultation with other professionals (e.g., teacher, MDs) involved in a client´s care. A psychological assessment is helpful in identifying an individual´s strengths and weaknesses. It will lead to recommendations for both behavioral or academic intervention. By detecting problems, an assessment can be used to assist in planning a child´s school program or can be used to help adults became more efficient at work. Adapted from apa.org/helpcenter
