About The School
The American School Foundation (ASF) was founded in 1888 by expats wishing to provide the best of an American-style education to students in Mexico City. It has upheld that mission for more than 125 years.
ASF aims to foster a caring, diverse student body and an inclusive community, promoting academic excellence, recruiting talented teachers and leadership and providing a 21st-century learning environment with modern infrastructure.
Our ultimate goal is to nurture responsible young men and women who meet their potential and will be leaders in facing the challenges of our global society.
The American School Foundation boasts a diverse student body of more than 40 nationalities. The majority of students come from the United States and the host nation. ASF operates a comprehensive network of school busses that bring students to and from the campus safely.
All students follow the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools’ program requirements for the United States high school diploma, with optional high school coursework available through the International Baccalaureate and Advanced Placement programs.
The Secretaria de Educacion Publica (Mexican Ministry of Education) and the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (Mexican National Autonomous University) revalidate ASF studies for grades K through 12 and 10 through 12, respectively.
ASF’s high academic standards allow students to transfer to other schools around the world seamlessly and place into top international universities.
Athletics and Extended Learning
The American School Foundation boasts top-class athletics and sporting facilities, including a 25-meter swimming pool, indoor basketball courts, tennis courts, a running track and several American football and soccer football fields.
Students can receive professional coaching in their choice of seven major sports.
ASF also offers 30 extended learning activities so students can further pursue and develop their artistic, academic and scientific interests from a young age.
The American School Foundation offers Middle and Upper School courses up to grade 12, in a challenging and goal-oriented university-preparatory program.
All students follow program requirements for the United States high school diploma, with optional coursework available through the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, a two-year advanced academic course of study, and Advanced Placement, which offers college credit upon successful completion of a final exam. Students may also have their coursework validated by Mexican National Autonomous University (UNAM) for entry into Mexican institutions of higher education.
Students develop analytical and creative abilities through coursework in core subjects like math, science, languages, social studies and literature. A diverse program of electives, clubs and student organizations encourage students to explore a variety of career skills. Electives include art, photography, journalism, drama, speech, creative writing, music, media arts, yearbook production and literary magazine production. Opportunities for leadership and independence abound, through student councils, honor society, and programs like the Model United Nations, which recreates actual UN committee functions on campus for two days in a student-run simulation.
