Cycling from Paris to Cergy
15 RepliesI hope that you don't mind me messaging you but we are hoping that you might know someone who might be able to help us for a charity event that we are organising in May. We run a charity that helps children who are suffering from brain tumours after losing our son aged 11 years old from one. We are organising a bike ride from Paris to Canvey Island in Essex, England and need someone to help the riders to get from the Arc de Triomphe to Cergy- all we need is someone to either show the riders the way or if someone could provide us with detailed written instructions of the best route to take. We have brought lots of maps and have driven to Paris but we have found it very difficult to find safe roads out of Paris without getting lost. We have already organised the route from Cergy to Dieppe but are struggling getting to Cergy from Paris. We all have road bikes and are hoping that you may know someone who could help or you may have an idea who we could ask for help. Thank you and kind regards.Chris Green. http://www.thedannygreenfund.org.uk/

Ive got a Strava map showing the route that my son and some friends followed from near Vauxhall’s sur Seine into Paris. I’m not sure how to link you to it but it might be useful.

His group went in the other direction from Central London to Dieppe then Paris. At the time he lived not far from Canvey, in Hockley.

I would definitely contact the gendarmerie and tell them of your plans. At the worst, they won't care, but they just might help a lot, they have been known to. Tell them how many cyclists and that you are looking for the safest route out of Paris, which will cause the least disruption to traffic. I think that it will all depend upon how many cyclists you will be, but it will cost nothing to ask and, on the other hand, you may get a positive response and even some traffic controlling help on the route. May I wish you the very best of luck and please do let us all know if you have a donation page.

tigger - what a great idea, their donation page seems to be this one: http://www.thedannygreenfund.org.uk/donate.html

Chèvrefeuille, if it’s a largish group, I would still tell the gendarmerie of your plans. Otherwise, thanks to you and Karen for the donation information. Anyway and as aforementioned. Good luck.

Large groups cycle from Britain and other places to Paris constantly. The Gendarmes do not get involved with their arrival or departure. The map I have sent shows a recognised route for groups to cycle into and out of the city following a safe if slightly indirect route.

It’s not a public event, it’s a private event involving a group of cyclists. As I have pointed out I have already provided some practical help. I certainly don’t agree with you on this.

Honestly Chèvrefeuille that is absolutely fine with me. I realise that you put a very high and exclusive value on your help. So, I'm happy to end this conversation.
Chris-Green, I hope that your event is huge success.
