Anita Groener

Migration and integration are issues that visual artist Anita Groener has been reflecting upon through her practice since she moved to Ireland in 1982 from her native country of the Netherlands. A highly respected artist in her field, she was elected a member of Aosdána, the prestigious Irish affiliation of artists, in 2005. Her current exhibition explores the displacement of migrants and the difficulties of integration into their host country. Her delicate sculptures and installations evoke the fragility of human beings caught in catastrophes beyond their control, but also the hope of reintegration, regeneration, and healing.

At 4pm on the opening day, Anita Groener will be in conversation with art critic Gemma Tipton. (admission free, reservation recommended – in English)

In response to the exhibition, the Poetry Jukebox invites you to listen to a new selection of poems about migration and exile (until 31 May)
