It's "She Who Must Be Obeyed's" birthday soon and despite nver having baked a ake in my life before I thought I'd give it a go. I've found the recipe but want to decorate it. Anyone know where they sell cake decorations?

I got some cupcake supplies in Casa recently and if you look in the baking section of most supermarkets they have quite a good range.  Lidl had a promo on recently with lots of different toppings so could be worth a go.

If you have never baked a cake in your life then the basic sponge mixture is simple.

For each egg you use, you need 2oz of butter, 2 oz of Flour and 2 oz of sugar. I usually go for a 4 egg mix for a standard round cake tin.

grease and line a standard size cake tin (I use a silicone one and lightly grease and flour it)

cream together the soft butter and sugar until its pale and fluffy (use some vanilla sugar with caster sugar)

slowly mix in each egg

fold in the flour with a sachet of leveure chimique

put in your tin and bake at gas 4 for 30 to 35 mins (dont open the door to check till at least 25 mins)

When it springs back in the middle when you poke it it is done

best of luck!

Yes, L'Eclerc have a decent selection of bits and bobs to go on cakes and I'm sure you'll find more specialised stuff if yoou have a look online. The food and drink section on Ebay france is prety conmprehensive.

Ill try thst HIF as it sounds nice and easy. Found some decorations and candles in Leclercs which will do I suppose. Look out for a "i've poisoned my family with a birthday cake" thread very soon.

Hope it goes OK, hopefully it will be tricky to poison them with a cake :)

Good luck and Happy birthday to your missus
