EtonHouse Prep is the first of its kind in Korea, and attracts pupils from the expatriate and Korean communities celebrating diversity and offering a distinctive education based closely on the National Curriculum for England (NCE) enriched with International Primary Curriculum (IPC) themes.
At its core, education is about self-discovery, challenge, broadening minds, and building confidence, self-assurance and a passion for learning and reflection. Through a broad curriculum we endeavour to identify and develop to the full our pupils’ talents and unique abilities. Our aims are twofold and simple: all the children in our care should love coming to school and secondly, they should be aware of the wider world around them and of their place within it. EtonHouse Prep aims that the children should not only come to Prep happy, self-assured, enthusiastic and ready for the challenges that the day holds, but also that they feel comfortable, safe, listened to and “at home.”
Education is about much more than studying and passing exams. At EHPS we believe that our children should experience a unique character-moulding journey, a ‘preparation’ for the next stage of their lives. As well as entry to excellent senior schools in Korea, Asia and the UK, we will help our pupils develop the tools needed to meet the challenges of the working world and with the confidence to address problems. Through exposure to a wide variety of subjects, languages, sports, activities and challenges, children at EHPS will have the opportunity to discover their talents, to develop lifelong relationships and to strive to become responsible and reflective global citizens.
In a constantly changing world, it is vital that our children are exposed to a very broad array of challenges and learning experiences so that they leave us as confident and self-assured individuals who are well prepared for the next stage of their lives.
In the Early Years (Age 2-5 years old), EHPS follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework. This framework is delivered according to IPC themes which enable very positive cross curricular links to be made which support young children’s learning. Young children learn best when they experience choice and connection in their learning. Our skilled early years practitioners create a ‘free-flow’ environment which support these factors.
In Years 1-6 (Age 6-11 years old), pupils follow the NCE designed around IPC themes and covering the following subject areas: English, Maths, Science, Geography, History, Art & Design and Social Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEAL). The curriculum is further complemented by specialist teaching in Mandarin, Physical Education (PE) and Music. The curriculum is planned in detail using NCE programmes of study and internationally benchmarked learning objectives against which children’s progress is assessed. There is a seamless transition from the EYFS framework to the NCE studies in Year 1 which ensures that every child progresses according to their individual needs.
It is our aim at EtonHouse Prep that our children should not just come to school happy, self-assured, and ready for a challenge, but also that they feel comfortable, safe, listened to and ‘at home.’ We believe that if we can achieve this, we can help the whole child develop to their potential and at their own pace. To that end, pupils will receive dedicated PSHE (Personal, Social, Health Education) lessons taught by staff who provide a warm and supportive environment that encourages cooperation, community and cohesion.
After School Clubs: EHPS offers a full After School Clubs programme for pupils from Nursery upwards. Almost all clubs are run by EHPS staff and there are currently 10 clubs on offer. All pupils can choose 3 clubs per week, which are included in the fee (there may be a small additional fee for externally run clubs). These clubs help pupils develop intellectual, creative and physical skills.
Student Council: We believe that students have a voice and a contribution to make to EHPS. It is important that they be given the opportunity to express their views on issues of concern to them. It is equally important that they are listened to and encouraged to take an active part in promoting the aims and objectives of EHPS. We aim to achieve this through open dialogue and the formation of a Student Council.
Music Academy: EHPS offers one to one or group lessons by highly qualified music tutors on instruments which include: flute, clarinet, saxophone, oboe, bassoon, trumpet, trombone, tuba, euphonium, violin, viola, cello, bass, guitar, bass guitar, piano, drums, voice and advanced theory. Students also have the chance to sit Royal Schools of Music Examinations, as well as performing as a soloist at various musical events. This is not included in the tuition and offered to only those who are interested. However, EHPS encourages every child to learn an instrument. Playing an instrument is enjoyable, develops children’s confidence and self-discipline, provides a sense of achievement, and allows children to express themselves through their instrument.
