Has anyone experienced travelling in an unregistered taxi before? ...The standard-looking cars that insist that you get in and they will take you to your destination? It is very common in some parts of SH. I first came across these two weeks ago with my native Chinese colleague. After several taxis refused to take us to our office from the metro station, she accepted an invitation from one driver that pulled up in a standard silver sedan. I was quite nervous about it: not knowing whether we would actually be driven to our specified location, or be scammed or charged a ridiculous amount; but my colleague said she had some prior experience with it ( not that this made the situation appear safer). Needless to say, we got to our office eventually (it was an extremely speedy ride in fact) and the driver charged us 10rmb, instead of the usual 14rmb when we take a normal registered cab. IN all honesty, I never want to do that again, regardless of how common it may be.
