Feature: Swimming in Singapore

Most condos in Singapore have in-built swimming pools, and the whole island is ringed by beaches. If you don’t yet swim, now’s the perfect time to get yourself some lessons – and lifesaving classes too, while you’re at it

Not everyone has a pool here in Sing, but those without one still probably swim on a regular basis. Clubs and community centres all have big pools for use by members (and, sometimes, the public). It’s rare to find a condo without one but if this is the case for you, just pack up and head to one of the beaches on east or west coast.

Expats who move here with small children might want to think about making swimming lessons a priority, because you won’t go far without coming into contact with water. If you need to give your children lessons, there are plenty of options. Some families often group together with others and organise a private instructor to come to the condo for after-school lessons. Others prefer to take the kids to one of the many swim schools available. To find a swim class or book an instructor, CLICK HERE.

If swimming is high on your list of school facilities you can go online to find out what each school has to offer. Facilities will be listed on websites, with pictures and details. To view the sports facilities of a school, book to go on an open day where you can meet the sports staff to ask questions and view the building.

Singapore hosts a number of water events throughout the year, and has several bespoke sports centres perfect for the purpose, like the National Stadium and OCBC Arena. Many tickets are available via Sportshub (for bands as well as sporting events). To keep track of all sporting events in Singapore, CLICK HERE

Not every beach or pool has a lifeguard, and we all know how important water safety is. Cut out the risk and put yourself in a position of responsibility at the same time, by learning some basic First Aid or lifesaving skills. To find a course CLICK HERE
