A group of St. Andrews Society members set out once a month to hone their skills on the links or just enjoy a day in the fresh air. The Singapore St Andrews Society Golf Section has a very active membership made up of an excellent mixture of experienced keen golfers, those just starting out and many who come on our outings more for the camaraderie and banter. Both men and lady golfers are welcome and many of our winners come from the ranks of the ladies (more time to practice?).
We do ask that participants have had a handicap somewhere at some time or if they are recent converts to the game, have a Singapore PC demonstrating that they know some golf etiquette and are capable of finding their way around a course. If you had a handicap in the past but havent played recently, dont worry - well take your word for what your last handicap was! We have our own handicapping system based on what you declare for starters, adjusted based on your games with the Society. We adjust handicaps to give everyone a chance to compete, allowing up to 36 for men and 45 for ladies - but should you win, the axe falls heavily!
Outings take place most months on a Saturday morning, with dates published in advance in the Newsletter. We play on courses in Johor, Bintan and Batam driving or taking ferries depending on location. Numbers vary but we usually have around 20 people participating. Flyers are sentout by email two to three weeks in advance. Numbers can be limited, especially when restricted by ferry timing or scarcity of tee times, so it is good to get your response early to avoid disappointment.
On the outings, we play a Stableford competition and also have prizes for Nearest the Pin and Longest Drive. Our main competition is the Chieftains Trophy which is played annually, usually in May. To compete in the Chieftains Trophy, we ask that you have played at least two previous games with the Society so that we can establish a realistic handicap for you.
The Golf outings are great fun regardless of your standard of golf or how long it is since you played and are thoroughly enjoyed by all. If you enjoy a good day out with a bit of golf thrown in, why not register now and join us?
