The Cardiac Centre - Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre

DATO Dr Leslie Lam, a highly qualified respected heart specialist and one of the pioneers who perform Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty. Management of heart conditions and related problems, cardiac screening and other cardiac procedures.

Doctor Leslie Lam is a pioneer of non-invasive procedure Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty (PTCA) in Singapore.

PTCA is a medical procedure which uses a balloon to open narrowed or blocked coronary arteries (blood vessels of the heart). Fat and cholesterol can accumulate on the inner lining of arteries, forming plaque deposits which can narrow or block arteries (atherosclerosis), threatening the vital supply of blood to the heart.

If a blockage is not too severe, a balloon catheter may be used as an alternative to open-heart surgery to open the artery before insertinga device called a stent to keep the artery open at the site. Blood thinning medicine may also be given to prevent a blood clot from forming.

June 2017 added to the many previous awards, Dr Leslie Lam has been honoured by the Medical Graduates Association of University College Dublin's School of Medicine in recognition of great achievement and contribution to UDC School of Medicine as one of their alumni. It has only ever been previously awarded to one member of any class, making this an outstanding award.
