Black snake

I spotted a very black snake which at its thickess was the diameter of my thumb and it was about 2 to 3 ft. Anyone know what type of snake this might be?

Probably a spitting cobra. Even when that small they can be lethal. If you have any pets who like to hunt, be careful! I once lost a dog to a spitting cobra, when the dog had it by it's neck, the cobra could still turn its head and bite the dog's jaw. Both cobra and dog died in the end, good for the snake, really sad to lose the dog. If you face them, watch out for your eyes, as they'll spit their venom into your eyes given half a chance, which could very well blind you.
